Guest Recital: Christian Restrepo

The Moores School of Music welcomes pianist and composer, Christian Restrepo, who will be presenting a recital of his own works.

Born in Colombia, Christian Alberto Restrepo Sánchez has dedicated his life to the creation, performance, and teaching of music. Restrepo’s musical works have been performed in Panama, Colombia, Costa Rica, Polonia, Mexico, and the United States. Additionally, his creations have received awards in competitions such as The Robert Avalon international competition for Composers (USA) and Sarofim Composers Competition (USA).

He has participated as a performer, clinician, and speaker in important music festivals, including VIII Piano Piracicaba International Piano Festival, in Brasil, Chamber Music International Festival in Guatemala; VI and VII Pianist Festival in Costa Rica, and AFA Summer Camp in the United States.

Mr. Restrepo is also the artistic director of the “Gonzalo Vidal” International Latin Music Festival, an event organized by Fundación Universitaria Bellas Artes in Medellín, Colombia. In this musical celebration, some of the most prominent artists in the world gather together to honor the artistic creations of Latin American composers.

Restrepo is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (USA); the American Composer forum (USA); the Music Teachers National Association (USA); and Houston Teachers Association (USA). Restrepo is also an Educational Partner for Steinway and Sons.

In 2006, Restrepo earned his bachelor’s degree in piano performance from El Instituto De Bellas Artes in Medellín, Colombia. In 2010, he obtained his master’s in piano performance from Sam Houston State University, and in 2014, his doctorate in piano collaboration from the University of Houston, with a minor in composition.

Currently, Christian Restrepo resides in the city of Houston, Texas, with his wife Marcela.
