Come & Take It by Bernardo Cubría
Saturday, March 13, 2021
12:00 am - 11:59 pm
The UH School of Theatre & Dance proudly presents the world premier of UH Alum Bernardo Cubria’s play, Come & Take It, adapted from Bertolt Brecht’s In The Jungle of Cities and based in Houston, TX present day. Xoch tries to take back her old neighborhood and family’s land after it has been gentrified. Local mom and pop businesses have been replaced by breweries and high-end boutiques while the character and culture have been erased. Xoch seeks revenge from Garga, a local brewer, first by trying to take his white privilege and then by taking over his life. Garga won’t go so quietly and fights back. Their actions have consequences and their family, friends and city pay for it.
