The Moores School Percussion Ensembles will present their Fall 2020 concert on November 6, 2020, at 7:30pm live in-person in the Moores Opera House! The performance will also be live-streamed for our patrons and supporters who prefer to enjoy the concert from the comfort and safety of their home.

Under the direction of Blake Wilkins, MSPE I will perform a series of percussion quartets, including Paul Lansky’s “Springs” and Michael Laurello’s “Quartet.” Christopher Deane’s “Vespertine Formations” recreates the impressions of the aerial movements of bird flocks. Kevin Bobo’s energetic “Swarm” is inspired by Old Testament scripture recounting the plague of locusts invading Egypt. David Hall’s “DisArchitecture” is loosely based on the “deconstructionist” architecture of Frank Gehry.

MSPE II, directed by Alec Warren, will perform another work by Kevin Bobo, “Hemispheres,” along with “Ritual Music” by David Skidmore,” “Six” by Ivan Trevino, and “Trio in a Rudimental Style” by Joseph Tomkins. MSPE II’s program includes “Wild Sound” by Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche. Also included are transcriptions of the second movement of Claude Debussy’s String Quartet in G major and the aria “Field of the Dead” from Sergei Prokofiev’s “Alexander Nevsky.”

Please be aware that all patrons will be required to wear face masks and maintain proper social distancing while attending live events at the University of Houston. Live events will be performed without intermission and seating will be assigned by ushers upon arrival to ensure proper social distancing between parties during the performance.
