An Evening with Martial Caillebotte and Friends (Virtual Recital)

Sunday, October 11, 2020

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Dominique McCormick, soprano, and Keith Weber, pianist and guest Jeffrey Ragsdale, tenor, invite you to an evening at a Parisian Salon. During this virtual recital, explore the beginnings of impressionism in music and hear the exploratory harmonies and compositional techniques of Marital Caillebotte, the younger brother of the famous impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte.

Spend an evening hearing the melodies of Martial Caillebotte side by side with his more well-known friends, Jules Massenet, Charles M. Widor, Cecile Chaminade, and Pauline Viardot. Poetry by Theophile Gautier, Alfred de Musset, and Pierre de Ronsard is set by this formidable French composer of the Belle Epoque. Learn who the younger brother of Gustave Caillebotte is, and how his talent was overshadowed and hidden away for almost 100 years. This recital is a presentation of Martial Caillebotte’s work to the American community and is the culmination of the research found in Dominique McCormick’s doctoral dissertation of Martial Caillebotte’s Melodies and Scenes Lyriques: Analytical Essays and Performance Guide.
