Concert: AURA Contemporary Ensemble- Resonances

Friday, November 11, 2022

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

AURA performs works that reflect on different events, works and viewpoints. Compositions by AURA director Rob Smith and Gabriella Smith (no relation) are inspired by and reference the music of Baroque composers G.H. Stölzel and J.S. Bach, respectively, and view their musical ideas through a modern lens. New Zealand composer Natalie Hunt responds to the 2017 Kaikoura earthquakes in a quartet for clarinet, violin, viola, and cello, and Poppy Beddoe, a clarinetist from the United Kingdom, will premiere a new work for clarinet and piano by Houston composer Chad Robinson. Finally, we will ruminate about an absent lover and the negative effects of politics through the words of British author Carol Ann Duffy and the music of Dutch composer Michel van der Aa.
