AURA Contemporary Ensemble: Reimagined

Monday, April 25, 2022

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The Moores School of Music presents AURA Contemporary Ensemble: Reimagined.

AURA presents an evening of music that reimagines other work, including premieres by Alejandro Basulto and Matt Ingalls. Previously created materials are re-explored in Alejandro Basulto’s “Memorias de Frontera”, which utilizes sketches from his earlier works, and in Kaija Saariaho’s “Cendres”, which uses material from her double concerto for alto flute, cello, and orchestra. Older works are reinterpreted via new arrangements in Matt Ingalls’ “György Variations”, a work based on music by Ligeti that was originally for winds, and Corey Dundee’s “sb3”, a trio that has been created from a duo. Faculty pianist Tim Hester will be featured in a solo performance of Rob Smith’s “Let Freedom Ring”, a reflection on the fragility of our democracy through manipulation of the patriotic song “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”, and the ensemble will end the program with Graham Fitkin’s highly energetic “Ardent”, which reimagines the same material with different parameters as it progresses.
