Understanding Your Options

The cost at local healthcare facilities vary widely based on the facility and your insurance status. Such costs are the patient's responsibility - the university does not cover them. It is the responsibility of the student to understand the details of their particular health insurance policy (e.g., costs, limitations, etc.). Don't forget to bring your photo ID and health insurance card with you.

Many insurance plans, including the UH Student Health Insurance Plan, include a deductible, co-payment and co-insurance. That means that the higher the bill, the more money YOU pay out of YOUR own pocket! Visit an Urgent Care Center for a sore throat, and your average bill will be $94; at an Emergency Room, the average bill comes to $525.

Always confirm the participation status of the physician or non-physician provider with your insurance company before receiving services. When you get medical care from an out-of-network physician or health care professional, you may be responsible for all or part of the fees for services that are not paid or covered by your health benefit plan.

Telehealth
