Gamification with PointSolutions

In an educational environment, the gamification of learning motivates students to learn by using game elements. Through the gaming process, students are actively involved in the learning activity, enjoying the games as well as inspired to continue learning.

Besides increasing students’ engagement in classroom, PointSolutions also has a range of features to incorporate gamification into any learning activity easily. The features include:

  • Participant Leader Board: displays the top individual students ranked by their total points. This slide updates dynamically after each question.

  • Team Assignment Slide: assigns students to teams for competitions and is also considered a demographic slide.

  • Team Leader Board: displays teams ranked by their total points. Team scoring works by calculating the point total for all of the participants on a team and then dividing it by the number of students.

  • Wager Slide: allows students to wager a percentage of their points on the next question slide.

  • Team MVP Slide: displays the individual student on each team with the most points.

  • Racing Leader Board Slide: presents a visual representation of the team scores. When the slide is advanced, the images move in relation to the number of points earned.

  • Fastest Responder Slide: lists the individual students who responded correctly the fastest to the most recent question.

Using these game elements, instructors can create a fun and competitive learning environment for students to compete against each other or to encourage them to challenge themselves in order to motivate better learning.
