Project Manager Stormwater Checklist

If your project will disturb more than 1 ACRE of land you must follow the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) General Permit to Discharge Storm Water from Construction Sites. If less than 1 acre disturbed the project is exempt from the permit requirements.

If more than 1 acre but less than 5 acres are disturbed

  • Have a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) that utilizes best management practices (BMPs) as specified in the Handbook to Aid with Compliance of Storm Water Management
  • Post Site Notice at construction site
  • Submit Copy of Site Notice to MS4 Operator

If more than 5 acres are disturbed

  • Have a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) that utilizes best management practices (BMPs) as specified in the Handbook to Aid with Compliance of Storm Water Management
  • File a Notice of Intent (NOI) with the TCEQ prior to beginning work (A copy of the NOI must sent to MS4 operator)
  • Submit Permit Fee for NOI to TCEQ
  • Post Site Notice and NOI at construction site
  • File Notice of Termination with TCEQ and copy MS4 Operator when project is completed

Notes for all permitted projects

  • Periodically review contractors weekly inspection reports for compliance to SWPPP requirements
  • Maintain records for a period of 3 years after completion with project documents
