The University of Houston is classified as a special waste generator for the purpose of determining requirements to comply with the City of Houston Special Waste Generator requirements. This is especially pertinent to owners of facilities equipped with grease traps, grit traps, lint traps, oil-water separators. Off of the main campus, owners of facilities equipped with septic tanks are also included in these programs. Environmental Health & Safety facilitates compliance with these requirements by requiring and facilitating registration with the authority having jurisdiction, maintaining records, and maintaining contracts for the servicing of these facilities.
