WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE VIRTUAL REVERSE FAMILY WEEKEND. We encourage you to spend time with your family at home if possible or engage virtually in our fun events with them!

Friday, October 30

  • 12:00 – 2:00pm

    Virtual Resource Fair, Microsoft Teams
    Join our campus resources for an afternoon to learn and ask questions of many offices and departments all in one convenient place.

  • 2:00pm

    Virtual Campus Tour
    Join the UH Ambassadors as they give you a virtual tour of campus hotspots and their student experiences as a UH student.

  • 2:00 – 2:15pm

    Live Curator Tour of Stephanie Syjuco: The Visible Invisible
    Blaffer Art Museum invites you to join us on Instagram Live for a 15 minute tour of Stephanie Syjuco: The Visible Invisible with Steven Matijcio, Blaffer's Director and Chief Curator.

  • 2:30 – 3:00pm

    UH Family Weekend Art-Making Demonstration
    Join us for a family-friendly art-making tutorial with artist Rona Lesser. This activity takes its cue from the innovative exhibitions of contemporary art at Blaffer Art Museum. Be prepared to get creative and design a costume!

    #AskMeAnything with the UH Ambassadors
    What’s fun to do in Houston? How challenging are college classes, especially virtually? What’s up with the food robots? Get your most pressing questions answered by current students during this #AskMeAnything session.

  • 5:00pm – 6:00pm

    Coog Moms Happy Hour, Zoom
    Join us for our Coog Moms Happy Hour Hear about what’s happening the rest of the year and enter to win some amazing prizes including Life Membership. Also, if you register for Family Weekend, each member of Coog Moms will receive and special One-of-a-kind care packages filled with a variety of UH items not everyone has access to.     Family Friendly Virtual Cooking Class with Lettuce Cook, Virtual Event
    All family members are invited to come to us live from your kitchens to cook a meal together. Dietary considerations and adjustments can be made. Sponsored by The Dean of Students Office.

    Family Weekend Magician Featuring Wes Barker, Virtual Event
    Wes Barker is a magician & comedian who is all over TV and the internet. Best known for appearances on America’s Got Talent, MTV’s Greatest Party Stories Ever, Wizard Wars, Netflix, and The Comedy Network. Most famously, Wes is known for his episode of CW’s hit show Penn & Teller: Fool Us. Where Wes became one of the few magicians to ever win on the show by fooling the legendary Penn & Teller. As if that’s not enough Wes also has a popular YouTube channel with more than 70 MILLION views and was awarded the Silver Play Button!

    Morning Yoga with Coog Moms, Zoom
    Join our very own, Randy Galkowski, Coog Moms Board Member for a morning virtual yoga session live from UH. This event is open to all Family Weekend participants and will get your ready for the rest of the day’s fun. Sponsored by UH Coog Moms

  • 11:00am – 2:00pm

    Live Virtual Caricatures, Zoom Virtual Event
    Adam Pate is the originator of the Speed Sketch Caricature and considered the fastest caricature artist in the world. He has been very busy drawing people in around a minute at events all over the country for almost a decade! He regularly draws up to 200 people in his 3 hour, highly interactive performances. He even brings a big sign with a timer on it so guests can challenge his speed! His popularity has grown so much that he has found and trained other incredibly talented artists to complete his team of Speed Sketchers! Each artist can draw up to 140 - 180 people in 3 hours, sitting or strolling.

    UH Game Day Celebration, Join us online to show your UH spirit for a contest on social media and virtual game watch party. ***A $5 discount/ticket code will be provided for any family who wishes to attend the game in person in the limited capacity stadium via email prior to the event.

  • 8:00pm

    Family Movie Night, Netflix Party virtual
    Join us for a Netflix Party movie night with all the chatter in the chatroom that you would never want in the theater. Use teleparty https://www.netflixparty.com/ to chat and connect. If you do not have a Netflix account, Netflix does offer a free one-month trial. To participate in Teleparty, you will need to use Google Chrome and download an extension to participate.

Sunday, November 1

    Virtual Cardio Dance Class, Sponsored by Campus Recreation and Wellness
    Cardio dance is an easy-to follow, dance-fitness party that will encourage positive and fun thoughts surrounding exercise. This cardiovascular workout will make you sweat as you boogie to the beats of fun rhythms!

Free time
We encourage you to take advantage of all there is to see and do in the city of Houston. Please go to Visit Houston for more events and activities! Limited amounts of discount tickets also available at check-in.

Family Weekend Virtual 5k
Participate in our fitness fun and get those steps in....run, walk, roll, get your 5k in over the course of the weekend and report your results to be entered into a drawing for a campus store giftcard. Have your UH student log on to myrec.uh.edu and register the family for the big race! Participants will have from October 30th - November 1st to run/walk their best 5k time and then submit their results. Additional instructions are emailed once your student registers. Sponsored by Campus Recreation and Wellness

Family Weekend Step Challenge
We want to encourage you and your family to stay active and have fun. Participants will have from October 30th - November 1st to get moving and add up steps to make it into the top 10% of the challenge and be eligible for the prize drawing. If you all are active in other ways beyond walking please see our conversion chart so that the steps will count for your team total steps. Have your UH student log on to myrec.uh.edu and register the family for the step challenge! Participants will need to download the Stridekick app and sync their activity tracker to the app so that we can track your progress throughout the weekend. Get excited for some fun competitive movement with the family as you gain steps for the challenge. Additional instructions are emailed once your student registers. Visit the Blaffer Art Museum, Blaffer Art Museum is currently closed for installation of Stephanie Syjuco: The Visible Invisible and Simon Fujiwara: Hope House. Galleries will reopen to the public on October 17. Temporary Museum Hours: Wednesday-Sunday, 12:00pm-5:00pm. blafferartmuseum.org
