The SPIFFs listed in a row at the bottom of this site's Home page are linked over to this section. Here, site visitors can use the left hand navigation menu to find more detailed information about each of the showcased items.

Note that items 1, 3, and 4 have pages which are within this area, and item 2 is actually a redirect which goes to the UH About pages. A Redirect can have a place in a left nav menu because its parent folder provides the necessary Title text and functionality. 

This area is also set up as one might set up a Department - with this page's containing (aka 'parent') folder's settings selected as "Display as Header". Look at the right-hand column image for this page to see the settings.

The Display as Header setting restarts the left-hand navigation menu, which then displays only child items from inside this page's parent folder.

This area's parent folder's Metadata Title provides the header at the top of the left nav menu.
