Assistant Professor J. Leigh Leasure will kick off this semester's brown bag luncheon series with a discussion that reviews the literature about whether patients benefit from exercise after suffering a stroke.
Leasure offered a brief synopsis of the presentation:
"Stroke commonly affects the aged population, often resulting in permanent impairment. At present, there is no effective treatment for the chronic phase of stroke. Exercise has been widely studied in both human stroke patients and animal models as a potential therapy to enhance neuroplasticity and lessen functional deficits. But is it effective?"
The event is scheduled for Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. in room 135 in the Heyne Building.
The Developmental graduate program in the Department of Psychology is planning other brown bag lunch events for March, April and May during the Spring semester. For a schedule of the events, see the Developmental Psychology news page.
