Katie Truax (PhD Candidate) was part of the winning team at this year’s Summer Health Research Program (SHERP) hosted by the Fertitta College of Medicine and the UH Humana Institute. The program culminated in interdisciplinary group projects that presented to a "shark tank" including the CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Assistant Director of the Houston Health Department. Katie’s team worked on the project, "Familiar Faces, Caring Spaces: Enhancing Home-based Dementia Care." Focused on helping dementia caregivers handle end-of-life concerns, Katie joined a medical student, an economics student, a computer engineer, and a social work student on the team. They presented a technology-driven solution to support caregivers of final stage dementia and won the competition.
