The Mayor's Back to School Fest, 2016

Undergraduate COMD students, graduate speech-language pathology students, and a department alumna joined together to participate in the 6th Annual “Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest” hosted at the University of Houston. The Mayor’s Back to School Fest provides Houston area students with some of the tools they need to start the school year off right. Backpacks, uniforms, immunizations, and basic school supplies are all generously underwritten and donated by a multitude of corporations in the Houston community.

The department’s involvement in this community initiative spearheaded by Dr. Kia Johnson, provided parents with handouts - in both English and Spanish - detailing speech and language developmental milestones spanning across kindergarten through fifth grade as well as handouts on pragmatics and noise/loudness.
