Honors Biomedical Sciences

Honors Biomedical Sciences (HBS) offers a rigorous Bachelor of Science degree that partners with the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Affiliated faculty from the University of Houston, the University of Texas Medical School, the University of Texas Medical Branch, local research hospitals, and other health care institutions regularly participate in activities pertaining to the major.

HBS is the only degree that requires students to be in the Honors College. Students in this major will gain research experience and receive personalized test prep and application assistance. The HBS major is purposely kept small, and the cohort progresses through their coursework together.

Requirements

To major in HBS:

3/4 Program

The 3/4 Program is a highly competitive, accelerated BS/MD program within the Honors Biomedical Sciences major. After applying, students enter a vigorous interview process where only 10 applicants per year are selected. These 10 students are automatically accepted to either the University of Texas Medical School or the University of Texas Medical Branch provided that they meet all the program requirements.
