  • October 2017: Congratulations to Dr. Candice Alfano, who has been promoted to Full Professor.
  • June 2017:  A great big congratulations to clinical graduate student, Salome Vanwoerden, who has been awarded an NRSA F31 Fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)!!  The fellowship is for three years and the project is entitled, “The Development and Validation of an Observational Coding System for Real-Time Parent-Adolescent Mentalizing.”  Salome is advised by Dr. Carla Sharp.
  • April 2017:  Jennifer Cowie has been selected selected as the recipient of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine’s Student Dissertation and Thesis Award for 2017. The SBSM presents this award to scientists who have made significant scientific or clinical contributions to behavioral sleep medicine as exemplified by innovations in service delivery, dissemination, and public policy. Jennifer's advisor is Dr. Candice Alfano.
  • January 2017:  Clinical Program Graduate, Dr. Amanda Venta, identified as a Rising Star by APS (Association for Psychological Science).  Dr. Venta's mentor was Dr. Carla Sharp.
  • January 2017:  Clinical graduate student, Salome Vanwoerden, has been selected as a recipient of an American Psychological Foundation’s 2016 Division 49 Group Psychotherapy Grant!  This award of $1,000 is for her lab’s project entitled “Group-based Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS) to Address Problems in Emotion Regulations in Adolescents.”  Salome is advised by Dr. Carla Sharp.
  • June 2016: Congratulations to UH CN student David Sheppard, who has received one of the inaugural student research awards from The Clinical Neuropsychologist and American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology for his first authored publication “Does older age confer an increased risk of incident neurocognitive disorders among persons living with HIV disease?”
  • April 2016: The first annual University of Houston Clinical Psychology Graduate Research Showcase 2016 was held April 8, 2016. The keynote speaker was Dr. Carl Weems, Professor and Chair, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, Iowa State University. There were presentations by UH Clinical Psychology faculty, and presentations and posters of the current graduate students. The two winners of the competitive graduate student Research Award made presentations: Salome Vanwoerden and Daniel Paulus, MA.   • April 2016: Carla Sharp, Ph.D. was awarded the NASSPD Mid-Career Investigator Award at this year's NASSPD conference.
  • April 2016: Salome Vanwoerden, a 2nd year graduate student in Dr. Carla Sharp’s Developmental Psychopathology Lab was awarded the James Leslie McCary Award at the first annual clinical psychology research showcase.
  • April 2016: Julia Najm, undergraduate lab manager for Dr. Carla Sharp’s Developmental Psychopathology Lab was awarded the Laurie T. Callicutt Scholarship for her undergraduate research and overall academic performance.
  • March 2016: David Talavera, a 3rd year graduate student in Dr. Rheeda L. Walker's Culture, Risk, and Resilience Lab received Honorable Mention for the 2016 APA Minority Fellowship Program.
  • January 2016: David Talavera, a 3rd year graduate student in Dr. Rheeda L. Walker's Culture, Risk, and Resilience Lab received the 2016 APA Commission on Ethnic Minority Recruitment, Retention and Training (CEMRRAT) Travel Grant.
  • November 2015: Several abstracts from Clinical Neuropsychology graduate students have been accepted for the 44th Annual Meeting of the International Neuropsychological Society INS, February 3-6, 2016 in Boston, MA.
  • November 2015: Allison Kalpakci received American Psychological Foundation’s 2015 APF/COGDOP Clarence J. Rosencrantz Scholarship
  • November 2015: Dr. Viana received Board Certification (ABPP) by the American Board of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (ABCAAP).
  • October 2015: Michelle Clementi received the 2015 Texas Psychological Foundation Graduate Research Proposal Award. Michelle is advised by Dr. Alfano.
  • October 2015: Jennifer Cowie won a Student Travel Award from the Child and Adolescent Anxiety Special Interest Group of ABCT. Jennifer is advised by Dr. Alfano.
  • September 2015: Dr. Sharp was promoted to Full Professor
  • July 2015: The program welcomes Dr. Viana to the CCP faculty
