Who Will Make the Cut: UH Student, Chef Competes in Food Network's 'Chopped,' Aug. 7

Tyler Henderson, a student in the UH Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, will compete against established chefs in the industry on Food Network’s “Chopped” Aug. 7.

Four chefs will enter the Food Network’s “Chopped” kitchen, but only one will emerge as the “Chopped” champion.  On Aug. 7 a University of Houston student will compete against established chefs in the industry for a chance to win $10,000.

Tyler Henderson, an emerging chef and student in the UH Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, participated in the taped program earlier in the year. While he is prohibited from sharing the results, his UH fans are hosting a watch party to see how the young chef fared.

The event is planned from 6 p.m. - midnight, Sunday, Aug. 7 at Calhoun’s Rooftop Bar and Grill, 4701 Calhoun Rd, suite 200, on the UH campus.  The program starts at 8 p.m.

“Chopped” is a timed competition hosted by food and wine expert Ted Allen. Participants must create a three-course meal with ingredients contained in mystery baskets. They are judged on skill, speed and creativity.  Their offerings are presented to a panel of expert chefs at the “chopping block” who critique the dishes, chopping the weakest one until only one chef is left standing.

Henderson’s competitors hailed from Austin, San Francisco and New York.
