Creative Programs Showcased During UH Arts Open House Oct. 18

Free Campus Event Featuring Art, Music, Dance, Readings, Performances

The rising stars of the University of Houston’s creative programs soon will align. On Oct. 18, the UH Arts Open House will showcase student works and performances in the campus’ Fine Arts Quadrangle (located at Entrance 16 off Cullen Boulevard).  This free event runs 2 – 5 p.m. and is open to the community.

Complementary food and drinks will be available, as well as a limited number of screen printed T-shirts. Performers and participants include:

  • Men of Moores
  • Moores Clarinet Quartet
  • Moores Jazz Sextet
  • Glass Mountain authors
  • Roarin’ Raas (UH’s Indian dance troupe)
  • Phortasics (student improv group)
  • Bob’s Your Uncle (student music group)
  • Inprint poets
  • The Anthem (Houston rock band)

In addition to performances, the event will host a Halloween mask-making workshop and a screening of the PBS series “Craft in America.”

UH Arts Open House attendees are encouraged to migrate to Blaffer Art Museum for its annual fall kickoff event, Red Block Bash. The bash runs from 4 – 7 p.m. at the remodeled Blaffer Art Museum.

The event is in its fourth year and is presented by all of the programs that comprise UH Arts. These include the Creative Writing Program, School of Theatre & Dance, School of Art, Moores School of Music, UH Public Art Collection, Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts.
