Soon, a collection of University of Houston graduate art students will bid farewell to their favorite professors and embark on adventurous careers as professional artists. Before they close the doors on their campus studios, these master of fine arts (MFA) candidates will share the fruits of their labors at the 33rd Annual Masters Thesis Exhibition in Blaffer Art Museum.
The exhibition runs April 23 - May 14 in Blaffer Art Museum. On April 22, the gallery will host an opening reception for the exhibition. Admission to the reception and to Blaffer is free to the public.
Each year, Blaffer and UH's School of Art team up to present this exhibition to showcase the works of graduating student artists from a host of disciplines. MFA candidates represented at this year's exhibition are: Michelle Chen-Dubose, Jeremy DePrez, Francis Giampietro, J. Giroux, David Graeve, Emily Peacock, Suzanne Powney, Britt Ragsdale, Hana Shoup, and Frances Trotter.
"Our MFA graduates this year are some of the most driven and creative people I've met. And they defy any sort of "sizing up" that anyone might try to corral them with. What a visitor will see in this exhibition is an extraordinary variety of explorations, using media and methods fluidly and purposefully," said School of Art director John Reed. "It's a very impressive show."
