'Collage' Pieces Together Preview of UH Concert Season Sept. 16

It's the concert that has something for everyone.

"Collage" presents generous samplings of opera, jazz, orchestra and more performed by faculty and students from the University of Houston's Moores School of Music (MSM).

Each year, this unique, free concert showcases MSM's many talents while previewing the school's upcoming performance season. The 2010 edition of "Collage" will kick off at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 16 in the Moores Opera House (Entrance 16 off Cullen Boulevard). Admission is free.

During "Collage," hundreds of musicians will take the stage, and performances will flow continuously through the evening. Among the ensembles performing are the Spirit of Houston Marching Band, the UH Jazz Ensemble, the Edythe Bates Old Moores Opera Center (performing a selection from "La Vie Parisienne"), UH Steel Drum Band and Moores Symphony Orchestra (performing part of Berlioz' "Les Troyens").

"It's the best live variety show in town," said Buck Ross, director of the Moores Opera Center and the concert's coordinator. "We're able to jump instantly from one number to another without pause. Add to that the theatrical style lighting and projections, and it guarantees a concert like no other."
