Products from the UH Green Building Components will be on display at "Components, Systems and Assemblies: An Exhibition of Concepts, Prototypes and Production-ready Projects Developed Through the UH GBC," Sept. 8-18 on the grounds of the UH Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture. An opening reception is planned for 5 -7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10 at the college.
The exhibit highlights the work of eight teams, which include faculty, student researchers and industry partners.
"Their projects focus on design, development and market production of sustainable green building components," said Joe Meppelink, assistant professor and director of applied research for the college. "The work represents the potential to affect the built environment through sustainably designed components that will have a broad impact across the architecture, engineering and construction industries."
Projects include SPACE, a solar-powered, air conditioned sales office made from an up-cycled shipping container (view images: http://www.metalabstudio.com/category/blog/space/). SPACE can be used for a number of things such as a disaster relief office, visitors' center, neighborhood police storefront, cabin retreat or artists' studio.
