ORCHESTRA

The Moores School Symphony Orchestra excels in performing both new music and standard repertoire across diverse orchestral genres. Collaborating with the Opera Center, choirs, and Houston Ballet Academy, the orchestra features world-class soloists and student concerto winners. 

The Moores School Symphony Orchestra is conducted by UH Director of Orchestras, Franz Anton Krager. A major ensemble with over 110 members, the orchestra is a leader in the performance new music while continuing a commitment to the standard repertoire, presenting works from all major orchestral genres including full orchestra, chamber orchestra, opera, oratorio and ballet. The orchestra collaborates regularly with the Moores Opera Center, MSM choirs and the Houston Ballet Academy. The ensemble frequently performs with world-class performing artists including school faculty and major guest artists, and student winners of the Moores School Concerto Competition also perform with the orchestra year.

The orchestra has been featured at Texas Music Educators Association conventions and at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The orchestra routinely records and has to its credit more than 20 commercial compact disc recordings, downloads and worldwide streaming selections on the Albany Records, Métier Records, MSR Classics, Newport Classics, HDTT Pure Audio, Spotify, and Pandora labels.

Many of the orchestra’s alumni have gone on to win positions in major orchestras and become conductors, performers, and leading music educators in the field.
