LEARNING THROUGH INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTS

Exploring creativity across disciplines through mentorship, academic programs, and engagement with world-renowned artists.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts fosters innovative, cross-disciplinary learning through its dynamic programs that bridge artistic practice and academic exploration.
Learning through interdisciplinary arts offers students unique opportunities to engage with emerging and world-renowned artists, develop critical and creative thinking skills, and explore new modes of artistic expression. Whether through direct mentorship, hands-on coursework, or exposure to groundbreaking creative work, these programs enrich the University of Houston community and cultivate the next generation of interdisciplinary artists and scholars.
Through these programs, the Mitchell Center champions interdisciplinary engagement, providing students with the tools, experiences, and connections to thrive in both artistic and academic spheres.

SCHOLARS IN RESIDENCE

The Scholars in Residence program is for emerging artists, writers and curators.  This one to two-year residency as a teaching fellow is for post-graduate artists  and scholars either in the School of Art, Moores School of Music, School of  Theatre & Dance, Creative Writing Program or Blaffer Art Museum. This program  provides experience and connections to launch artistic and academic careers to  the next level. Calls are annual or bi-annual and are posted on the Human Resources careers page.

Convergence Research

Convergence Research is a collaboration between the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts and the Blaffer Art Museum that supports students and faculty in the McGovern College of the Arts to explore connection and collaboration between the disciplines in the arts and beyond. As a platform for experimentation and research with the goal of providing opportunities to push the boundaries of the artistic disciplines, it promotes interdisciplinary inquiry and techniques to stimulate creative process and cultivate works that are performative, temporary, and in any stage of process. Audiences can attend Convergence Research once a month at the Blaffer Art Museum during the academic year.

Only University of Houston faculty and students are eligible to apply using the link below.
