Prior to joining the University of Houston, Yoon Kim was an Assistant Professor of Visual Coomunication at the University of Oklahoma. Kim was formerly a Senior Graphic Designer at Deutser in Houston, Texas, where she worked on branding and marketing strategies. She was involved in a wide variety of engagements, and her clients included Houston Community College, PHI Air Medical, Covenant Health System, DePelchin Children’s Center, Houston Center for Literacy, and etc. Her professional work was awarded and received Crystal Awards, Telly Awards, ADDY Awards, Printing Industries of Gulf Coast Awards and more. Previously, she worked at Lucasfilm in San Francisco, California. Kim's interests and research focus on creating new narratives from primary sources including archival documents, public databases, and historical collections, and examining these primary sources that nourish generations of new histories. Kim also founded a studio, The Story, to continue work on her design practice and to provide professional design services focusing on branding, UI/UX design, print and web design. Kim is a current member of AIGA, the professional association of design, the Society of Experiential Graphic Designs (SEGD), and Korea Society of Design Science.
