With the new semester just around the corner, we’ve prepared a checklist of upcoming on-campus lectures, concerts and events. The following activities will reignite your University of Houston pride and help you start the academic year off right.

First Lecture with Nic Stone
Friday, August 16 at 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Cullen Performance Hall

Stop by to hear a lecture by New York Times bestselling author Nic Stone. Stone’s insightful and compelling works examine race, sexuality and class. This promising event is free for all. RSVP by August 12.

Campus Jobs for Coogs
Friday, August 16 from 1 – 4 p.m.
Student Center, Houston Room

At this fair, currently enrolled UH students can find an on-campus job for the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters. Joined by Moores School of Music (MSM) and Blaffer Art Museum staff, Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts (KGMCA) faculty will promote open work-study and non-work study positions at this event. Become a part of UH arts! (One of us. One of us. One of us.)

Concert Chorale: European Grand Prix Send-Off Concert
Friday, August 16 at 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Moores Opera House

Head on over to MSM’s special concert celebrating the Concert Chorale. After winning last year’s Béla Bartók International Choir Competition, the qualified and talented Concert Chorale will fly off to Italy to compete in the renowned European Grand Prix for Choral Singing. Go and support your fellow Coogs!

Cougar First Impressions
Monday, August 19 – Tuesday, August 20
Locations around campus

Sponsored by UH Staff Council, this event will help both new and returning students navigate this great campus. Drop by the table between the School of Art and Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design building to talk to KGMCA staff.

Launching Extended Hours at Blaffer Art Museum
Thursday, August 22 from 5 – 8 p.m.
Blaffer Art Museum

The museum will be celebrating its newly extended Thursday evening hours at this free event. The Blaffer Art Museum will now stay open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. So, head on over while the night is still young!

Campus Prowl
Wednesday, August 28 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Locations around campus

Ready, set, prowl! Fly through campus and visit a variety of UH colleges and departments to learn more about the resources available to students. Collect stamps in your Campus Prowl passport for the chance to win a $300 airline gift card.

Community Arts Academy Open House
Saturday, August 24 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Dudley Recital Hall, Moores School of Music rooms 108, 118 and 131

Come visit MSM to learn more about the Community Arts Academy, a new program that offers private music instruction in piano, voice and violin to students of all ages and levels.

First Friday Studio Sessions at Blaffer Art Museum
Friday, August 30 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Blaffer Art Museum, Fine Arts Courtyard

Get involved with UH arts and end the month with art-making, guided tours and fun activities at the museum's new Studio Sessions program. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
