Vision Statement

The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston will be international leaders in the discovery and dissemination of solutions for healthy, active living.

Mission Statement

The Department of Health and Human Performance generates knowledge, develops scholars, leaders, and health and wellness professionals, and serves the community through innovative programs and partnerships.

Goals

Goal 1: Provide high quality degree programs and experiences that prepare our students to be successful scholars and health and wellness professionals.

Objectives:

1A. Increase the graduation rate of first-time-in-college, transfer and graduate students.
1B. Increase the proportion of undergraduates who complete 30 student credit hours per calendar year.
1C. Track 20% of alumni to determine job & graduate school placement, alumni success & donor rate, and perception of degree and program quality.
1D. 100% of PhD graduates are employed in their field of study, and perception of degree and program quality.
1E. 100% pass rate on credentialing exams (or program pass rate is in top 10% of all programs).
1F. Improve the percentage of students who have satisfactory advising sessions.
1G. Improve the percentage of students who are satisfied with their educational experience.
1H. Promote and track student engagement in professional organizations and service.

Goal 2: Generate high quality scholarship to advance wellness-related knowledge and practical implementation.

Objectives:

2A. Increase the number of articles published in high-quality journals.
2B. Increase the number of article citations.
2C. Increase the number of external research awards.
2D. Increase the number of presentations at national and international scientific conferences.
2E. Increase the national and international scholarly reputation of the faculty.

Goal 3: Increase the level and impact of community engagement.

Objectives:

3A. Increase the amount of private donor giving.
3B. Increase the amount of corporate partnerships and donations.
3C. Increase the number of impactful community engagement events.
3D. Increase the amount of internal and external promotion & marketing.
