Gulf Coast Senior Editorial Graduate Assistantships

Through the Department of English, the Creative Writing Program (CWP) is pleased to offer three Graduate Assistantships to students in its Ph.D. and MFA programs fulfilling senior editorial positions at Gulf Coast magazine.

Founded by Philip Lopate and Donald Barthelme in 1986, Gulf Coast provides UH graduate and undergraduate students the experience of editing a nationally distributed literary journal in both print and online formats. Senior editorial positions include the Editor, the Managing Editor, and the Digital Editor.  All CWP students are eligible.

The Editor, Managing Editor, and Digital Editor will be hired for a two-year term (four issues). The positions include full teaching course relief, a competitive summer salary, as well as stipends at the end of each academic year. Each position also includes a nine-month TA salary o f $17,935.89  for MFA candidates and $20,104.89 for PhD candidates. Outgoing senior editors return to the teaching pool having gained two years of service (i.e. there is no penalty for course relief in deciding creative writing and literature classes).
