Gergely Ujhelyi

Gergely Ujhelyi is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Houston who works on questions of public policy and political economy. Gergely (pronounced gher-ghey) is particularly interested in policy implementation and bureaucratic organization. He has worked on a variety of policies including civil service rules, responses to nonpayment for public utilities, highway finance, voting technology, trade liberalization, corruption, and nature conservation. He is a firm believer in letting the question determine the best method of analysis, and consequently works with a number of different tools, including game theoretic models and empirical methods ranging from randomized field experiments to structural models. Gergely’s papers have been published in leading journals including American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Public Economics, and Journal of Development Economics. He is an associate editor of Economics & Politics, and a recipient of the Archimedes Prize of the European Commission. Gergely received his PhD from Harvard University in 2007.
