Attention Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Students:


The University Studies Division/Pre-Professional Advising Office is pleased to announce the Spring 2005 workshop dates for students interested in applying to medical or dental school. These workshops offer students general information about the application process, advice about preparation and course requirements, as well as specific information about services this office provides. We will also discuss the University of Houston Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) review and evaluation procedures. At the end of the workshop students will have an opportunity to establish a pre-medical or pre-dental student file with our office.

*No reservations or fees are required for attendance.

*Students in any academic major and any classification are welcome.
 

*All workshops are held in room 320, Student Service Center 1.
 

*Workshops begin at 3pm and last about an hour.

UTMB School of Allied Health Sciences Workshops 

The UTMB School of Allied Health Sciences offers a series of participatory workshops designed to acquaint students with allied health careers, to assist in career choice & readiness, and to increase competitiveness in the application process. Students and advisors can identify the appropriate starting point for each individual, and participants may enroll in any or all of the workshops depending on their personal level of development. There are no fees for these workshops, but reservations and/or applications are required. Call (409)772-3030 or email pjendrus@utmb.edu for information.

 

Priming for Professional School

Half day at Galveston, for students readying for professional school. Topics include professional school expectations, and strategies to pursue while in pre-requisite study, to become more competitive. Includes information on identifying professional role models, developing personal goals, utilizing more effective study and time management techniques, developing support networks, researching financial aid, becoming involved in leadership and multicultural activities, and more. RSVP required.

 Introduction to the Application Process

Full day at Galveston, half day or full day at host campus sites, for students contemplating applying to professional school within the next year or two. Provides overview of admissions and application considerations. Includes didactic information on deadlines, pre-requisites, completing the application form, writing a competitive narrative statement and interviewing. RSVP required.

 Advanced! Application Workshop

Two or three-day workshops held regionally for students ready to make application to an allied health program. In-depth preparation for meeting professional expectations and behaviors, professional school acclimation strategies, writing a competitive narrative with individual critique, interviewing and mock interview sessions. Lodging and meals provided. Students must complete workshop application and be accepted to participate.

 UTMB also host Open Houses from 1pm-4pm. Each Open House will represent the following programs:
