Scholarship Award

The Allied Health Professions Society will award two (2), three hundred dollar ($300) scholarships. One (1) will be awarded at the end of the fall semester and once will be awarded at the end of the spring semester of each academic year to an active member of the University of Houston AHPS, based upon the following regulations and point system.

  1. Must be a full time student (minimum of 12 semester hours at UH).

  2. Must maintain an overall GPA of 2.75.

  3. Must have an active paid membership for the UH AHPS on file.

Points awarded for the following:

  1. Attending officially scheduled membership meetings of the UH - AHPS. 1 point each meeting.

  2. Working a full shift during any official UH - AHPS fundraiser. 1 point each shift.

  3. Coordinate a group study session of the UH - AHPS.  1 point each one hour session.

  4. Volunteering for community service projects that have been pre-approved by the officers of the UH - AHPS (documented and verified). 1 point each project.

  5. Volunteer work (not paid) in the medical community (documented and verified). 1 point for each 40 hours worked.

Eligibility

  • Officers (Pres., V.P., Secretary, Tres.) are not eligible for scholarships.

  • AHPS Coordinators are eligible for scholarships.

  • Volunteer work for community services projects must be pre-approves by the officers of the AHPS to earn points. No points will be awarded after the fact.

  • Volunteer work in the medical community will be counted only during the official school semester dates ( first class day through last class day) and during the time your membership is active during that time period. The work does not have to be pre-approved, but it must be documented before it will be reviewed and approved by the officers of AHPS.

  • The winner of the fall semester scholarship is not eligible to win the spring semester scholarship.

  • The scholarships will be awarded to the qualified member who earns the most points during officially declared dates.

  • Members may challenge their points earned to the officers any time prior to one week before the scholarship is awarded.

  • Should there be a tie for pints earned, the member involved in the tie with the highest GPA for that semester will win.

  • If the GPA does not break the tie, the scholarship will be divided between the point winners.

  • The scholarship will be made out to the winner and he or she may use it in any way seen fit.

  • The officers of the UH AHPS and a minimum of the two faculty members will be the sole decision - makers in totaling points and awarding the scholarships.
