The
Day
The doctor told my mom that I was due
to come on February 11th but I had other plans. You see, I was
very eager to meet all the people who had been talking to me while I was
in Mommy's tummy. Early Saturday morning, at 3:45 am, Mommy woke
up to use the restroom. She discovered that her water had
broken!! She told my dad but he didn't really believe that it was
time. He told Mommy to lay back down and go to sleep!!! Mom
called the doctor and the doctor told her how to determine if this was the
real thing. She said that if it was, Mommy should
come to the hospital because my doctor was on duty and would be able to
deliver me. Well it was the real thing all right so Mommy showered and got
ready to go to the hospital. My Mom had convinced herself that
I would not be coming until the end of the month so she had not even
packed a bag yet. They finally got everything together and called
all of the family and friends who needed to know and left the house
around 5:45 am.
We arrived at the hospital at about
6:00. Luckily my Mommy had not had any bad contractions yet.
I wished it could stay that way but they were soon to come. At
about 6:30 mom started to have really bad contractions. I didn't
want to hurt her but I was really trying to get here. She
eventually got an epidural to take away the pain. I was glad that
she felt better. The doctor checked her at 6:45 and mom was dilated
4 cm. It was only a matter waiting now. Mom tried to rest
and at 9:30 the doctor checked her and she was still at 4 cm. Well
my doctor had to leave because she figured it would be a while before I
arrived (boy, did I fool her!). Since Mom was not progressing as
fast as they would have liked, they decided to give her a medicine
called petocin. This medicine made my moms contraction's come more
consistently so it would be easier for me to come.
At 10:55 the doctor checked my mom
again and to everyone's surprise she was dilated a full 10 cm. You
should have seen the shock on everyone's face including the
doctor. In just that small amount of time, Mommy was ready to
push! She started pushing at about 11:15. The doctor said
that I was face up which would make it harder to push so he tried to
turn me. I wouldn't turn though,so he told Mom to keep
pushing. It was hard for her but she really wanted to see me so
she kept at it. She had to push for almost an hour but she
loved me so much that she worked very hard at it and I finally arrived at
12:08 pm.
Mom named
me Kennedy Nikole (pretty huh!) and nursed me right away. My dad was
in love at first sight (he's already wrapped around my finger!).
Everyone says I look like him. I have his nose and the same dimple
in my chin. Lot's of people came to visit me while I was in the
hospital even though I slept through most of them. On Monday,
January 21st Mommy, Daddy, and I finally went home. We are all
very healthy and getting used to our new lives. |
