Current Curriculum Vitae

PERSONAL STATEMENT

In 2007, Tamika graduated Cum Laude and obtained a BA in Sociology and Social Work from Dillard University (New Orleans, LA). In 2008, Tamika obtained her Masters in Social Work at The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI). Her concentration was Interpersonal Practice with Children, Youth & Families.  She also received a special school social work certification.

In July 2020, Tamika accepted the Program Director 1 position, also known as Field Coordinator for Hybrid/Online students at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. One year later,  she received a promotion to Clinical Assistant Professor. In serving on the practicum team as an instructor, coordinator, and liaison, Tamika has helped to bridge the gap between the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) behavioral competencies and the structured learning provided while in practicum. She has tracked grades, updated IPT, and attended new student orientations as a representative of the practicum office. She has served on the Practicum Advisory Council (PAC), the GCSW Admissions Committee, and the GCSW Social Justice Committee. She has helped practicum instructors get onboarded, to start the affiliation process, navigate forms and ensure that the learning is progressive for their interns. She has mentored and guided students through securing a placement, maintaining a placement, and rebounding from a placement termination. She provides support for structured processes such as Curated Matches, Fall Interviewing, Marketplace, and The Distance Matching Process. She has helped students search for practicum placements, register for interviews, complete forms, and begin practicum.

She ignites a passion in students that challenges them to address root issues for sustainable systemic change. It is her passion to continue challenging the students to globally enhance their talents while increasing their self-awareness. She emphasizes the significance of having a self-care plan that includes immediate, intermediate, long-term, and lifetime efforts. She discusses how to successfully maintain a practicum placement while balancing other timely commitments such as family, employment, and MSW program requirements. She creates an atmosphere where students are comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions while establishing their professional identity.
