Personal Statement

In 2016, Dr. Nicole Bromfield joined the Graduate College of Social Work as an associate professor and associate dean for academic affairs, after teaching social work in the Arab Gulf for six years. The focus of Dr. Bromfield’s research is on the social well-being of persons who are vulnerable and at risk for exploitation, especially women and children in a global context. As a macro-level social work researcher with a global focus, a key part of her professional mission is to contribute to the promotion of positive social policy development, utilizing a critical feminist perspective in her work on women’s issues. To this end, she has developed and led multiple studies on complex social issues, such as divorce from arranged marriages and global surrogacy arrangements, in which there are significant gaps in existing literature. Most of her work utilizes a qualitative research approach, giving voice to participants who are often marginalized.
