SACSCOC Notification, Approval, and Assessment

The University of Houston is required to notify the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) of any changes in accordance with substantive change policy, and when required, seek approval prior to initiation of the changes.

SACSCOC defines a substantive change as a significant modification or expansion of the nature and scope of an accredited institution. Common substantive changes include: closure of a program, delivering programs at a new off-campus location, establishing a dual-degree program with another institution, or substantially increasing the number of credit hours awarded for successful completion of a program.

A complete list of substantive changes and notification procedures may be found in the following document: Substantive Change for SACSSOC Accredited Institutions. If you are contemplating a proposed change that meets a substantive change definition, please contact Joseph Curtin, Associate Provost, Institutional Research and Effectiveness at jcurtin@central.uh.edu.

Academic programs at UH are required to document assessment of learning and program outcomes. Specific assessment guidelines have been established for certificates, online programs, and distance/off-campus programs. If you have any questions please contact Joseph Curtin, Associate Provost, Institutional Research and Effectiveness at jcurtin@central.uh.edu.
