VP of Athletics Appointed

Dear Faculty and Staff,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Eddie Nuñez as the next University of Houston vice president of intercollegiate athletics. His appointment will be effective Aug. 22, 2024, pending UH System Board of Regents approval.
Nuñez joins us from the University of New Mexico where he served as vice president/director of athletics. During his seven years at UNM, he led the university to secure 54 NCAA tournament appearances, 22 Mountain West Conference titles and restructured key partnerships to ensure long-term financial success. Student-athletes took home 49 conference Athletes of the Year awards and excelled academically, leading the Mountain West in academic honors. He previously held various roles at Louisiana State University for 14 years, with his last being deputy director of athletics.
A former college athlete and native of Miami, Florida, Nuñez played basketball at the University of Florida where he received his bachelor’s degree in sports management and master’s in sports administration.
