Consulting Clinic
The University of Houston Computer Science CS Consulting Clinic (CSCC) is a practicum program in which second and third year STEM students, under the direct supervision of Dr. Rizk, assist Houston-area entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations by providing assistance in implementing the technological solution as an end-product.
Forms of Structured Work Experience | ||

Placement | Umbrella term describing all structured work experience. Learning emphasis on career exploration and employability/professional skill development. | |
Practicum | Focus is on developing professional capabilities and meeting professional registration requirements as defined by accrediting body. | |
Internship | Work experience under the guidance of an experienced professional. Deep learning and realistic preview of employment sector. | |
CO-OP Education | Guided professional and employability skill development through alternating full-time study and full-time employment across an academic programme. | |
Sandwich Course | A supervised work position in the practice of the student's future profession. Occurs during a period of time away from study. | |
Field Experience | Work experience linked to program content and designed for the purpose of preparation for professional practice. | |
Field Work | Exposure to the work setting through participation in work activities, site visits, etc. Experience used to enhance learning of academic content. | |
Work Study | Concurrent work experience not necessarily in the practice of future profesion. Often tied to general professional and/or personal development. |
