Global Awareness, Cultural Diversity the Focus of International Education Week at UH

Diversity is a strength celebrated at the University of Houston and spotlighted in the week long observation of International Education Week.  Music, food and a host of activities are planned Nov. 14-18 across the UH campus to showcase a global perspective to learning.

“International student organizations at UH have been eager to share their culture with our campus community,” said Anita Gaines, director of international student and scholar services.  “These future leaders are learning and teaching global awareness.”

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. departments of State and Education and began in 2000.  Today, more than 100 countries around the world celebrate this initiative.

Among the UH activities planned:

  • An international marketplace in Butler Plaza where foods from many cultures will be available
  • An India studies tea
  • An opportunity to learn about careers in the U.S. Department of State and international studies
  • Asia Project, an evening of poetry and music
