The University of Houston's John P. McGovern Award Lecture in Health and Family Values will feature noted surgeon and University of Texas - Health Science Center (UTHSC) President Larry Kaiser.
Kaiser will present "Give and Take: Organ Transplantation in the Era of Health Reform" at 7 p.m., March 30 in the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion (second floor of UH's M.D. Anderson Library). A reception at 6:30 p.m. will precede Kaiser's lecture.
Kaiser was named UTHSC president in 2008. Prior to this position, he served as the John Rhea Barton Professor and chairman of the department of surgery, as well as surgeon-in-chief of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Kaiser is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of every major surgical society including the American Surgical Association, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Clinical Surgery, the Fleischner Society, the Halsted Society and the Society of University Surgeons. In 2005, he was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science. Kaiser has authored or co-authored more than 300 papers and 14 books.
