Presented by the UH College of Technology's human development and consumer sciences department (HDCS), this event is open to the public and will feature two panel discussions showcasing fashion and retail professionals. Another highlight is a table talk in which students from UH, community colleges and high schools can discuss internship and career opportunities with representatives from leading retail companies.
The first panel, "Movers and Shakers" kicks off at 1 p.m. with speakers Lou Delone, publisher of Modern Luxury Magazines; Wendy McCain, shoe buyer for Tootises; and Georgene Boone, store team leader for Target.
The next panel, "Retailers That Shape Your Future - What is it Really Like?" begins at 2:30 p.m. with executives from J.C. Penney, Neiman Marcus, Dillard's, Al's Formal Wear, Macy's, Target and Stages. The moderator for both panels is Roz Pactor, UH alumna, president of the Pactor Group and former vice president and fashion director for Foley's.
"Students will enjoy hearing about the innovative retail strategies used by retail leaders in branding, developing fashion magazines and buying high end fashion," said Shirley Ezell, associate professor of HDCS. "The panel discussion will provide an inside scoop on what it is like working as an executive for large, medium and small stores and offer insight on what it takes to rise in an organization. An added feature is the ‘table talk' from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in which students can ask retailers about internship opportunities or positions available after graduation."
