BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS IN PAINTING (BFA)
The BFA in Painting at the University of Houston embraces painting’s rich 40,000-year history while fostering its evolution as a dynamic and expansive art form. Students are immersed in both the traditions and innovations of painting, gaining proficiency in tools and materials, and developing conceptual, analytical, and critical skills.
Coursework progresses from structured assignments to interpretive projects, culminating in self-directed studio practice. This approach provides a strong foundation for students to cultivate independent voices as professional artists. The program emphasizes innovation and experimentation, preparing graduates to create meaningful, relevant, and personal work in today’s art landscape.
Internship opportunities at prominent Houston institutions, such as DiverseWorks Artspace and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, offer invaluable professional experience, enhancing students’ academic and studio practice.
The BLOCK program is a pivotal milestone for BFA Painting students, marking their advancement into an intensive, professional-level course of study. Admission is determined through a competitive portfolio review, ensuring a highly motivated and talented cohort.
