TMF Vocal Institute

  • About the Institute

    Daily Classes and Sessions (up to 35 hours per week) include:

    • Dance and Movement for the Stage
    • Techniques in dramatic interpretation
    • Diction and Language
    • Daily individual and ensemble coaching
    • Scene staging
    • Guest master classes and lectures
    • Individual voice lessons will be available for participants. (Lessons are voluntary and offered with the approval of the individual’s voice teacher.)
    • Performance(s) of opera/operetta scenes. Final performance is Friday, June 14, 7:30 p.m.
    • Limited enrollment, generous tuition fellowships.
    • Baroque interpretation/style

  • Application Requirements

    Application/Audition Requirements:

    • Open to college freshman, sophomore, and junior vocal students.
    • Applicants must be 18 years of age by May 26, 2024 to be eligible to participate in the Vocal Institute.
    • Completed application (including payment of $40 non-refundable application fee)
    • One-page resume
    • Video recorded audition with two vocal selections, including one in English and one in Italian OR German.

    Once you've signed in to Acceptd, use the following steps to complete your submission:

    1. Fill out the application form.
    2. Upload your audition video files and one-page resume. 
    3. Pay the $40 application fee by credit card through Acceptd.
    4. A preview page will appear.  
    5. Click "Submit Your Application" to finalize your submission. A confirmation page will appear when your application has been successfully submitted.
    6. Call Acceptd Customer Support (not the TMF office) at 1-888-725-2122 or use the green “Help” button on the right side of the screen if you have issues with submitting your application/audition audio recording.

  • Tuition, Housing, and Fees

    • Application fee, $40 due with completed application
    • Tuition: $1500 value. Consideration for financial aid available upon request.
    • Optional On Campus Housing: 
      • Townhouse/No meals: $1,200. (Single room in townhouse with shared kitchen, laundry, and bath. Participants are responsible for own meals.)
      • Optional Meal plan: $720 (Three meals daily)
      • Shared Dorm Room/with Meals: $1320 (Double occupancy in suite, three meals daily.)
  • Important Dates

    Important Institute Dates:

    • Arrival/Housing Check-In (if staying on-campus): Sunday, May 26 AFTER 12 noon AND BEFORE 5 p.m. at UH Cougar Village I,located on the University of Houston campus at 4385 Cougar Village Dr., Houston, TX 77004. (Housing is NOT available before May 26 - please plan your arrival in Houston accordingly). Participants are responsible for transportation to Houston and also to the UH campus  – airport transportation is not provided.
    • Institute Start Date: Monday, May 27Registration: Afternoon, Time TBD, Moores School of Music, Room 108
    • Final Concert/Institute End Date: Friday, June 14,  7:30 p.m., Dudley Recital Hall
    • Dorm Check-outSaturday, June 15 by 12 p.m. Participants are responsible for own transportation.

    Deadlines:

    • Recorded Audition/Application Deadline: April 1, 2024
    • Acceptance Deadline: April 11, 2024
      • This includes your completed Acceptance Reply form, your $1500 Registration Fee payment, and the optional Room and Meals ($1365) Fee payment, all submitted through Acceptd.
