The UH Center for Public History and Foodways Texas are excited to host a panel discussion with filmmakers, participants, and researchers from the documentary, Seadrift.

Seadrift covers the 1979 shooting of a white crab fisherman in Seadrift, TX by a Vietnamese refugee. Initial conflicts over fishing territories grew into violence, intimidation by the Klu Klux Klan, and other forms of hostilities against refugees.

Seadrift explores these violent events within the historical context of the Vietnam War, the Fall of Saigon, and the experience of hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees seeking safety in light of the communist takeover of their homeland. The documentary reveals the consequences of these events, which continue to echo through the United States today.
