UH Conrad N. Hilton College–San Antonio, Alamo Beer Company, Partner for Alamo Showdown Cook-Off

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 18, 2016 – The city’s best culinary contenders will stir up their tastiest one-pot recipes during the Second Annual Alamo Showdown Cook-Off, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, at Alamo Beer Company, 202 Lamar.

The Alamo Showdown, expected to attract hundreds during this fall festival season, is a partnership between the Alamo Beer Company and the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College–San Antonio, the city’s first and only provider of a Bachelor of Science of Hotel and Restaurant Management. The college is the beneficiary of the event’s proceeds.

“We want everyone to know that Hilton College is here in San Antonio,” said Eugene Simor, founder of Alamo Beer Company, who said his motivations for partnering with the college offers a chance to showcase the educational opportunities in the city.

The event, planned and executed by student managers and volunteers, aims to bring experiential learning opportunities to those preparing for hospitality careers.

Jennifer Bumgardner and Jordan Steele, student managers for the event, said the months leading to the Alamo Showdown have been a whirlwind of logistics, negotiations and long hours to market the event on a professional level.

“I’m learning that planning for a large-scale event like the Alamo Showdown requires connections in the industry and a great deal of networking,” Steele said. “But being part of Hilton College has connected us to a wide network of hospitality leaders. We are getting to know key players in San Antonio on a one-on-one basis.”

“Planning for the Cook-Off has really given me a glimpse of what my professional life will be like after college,” Bumgardner said. “I’m also learning about communication, delegation, teamwork and trust.”

Pre-sale tickets for the Alamo Showdown Cook-Off are $20 for adults. Admission includes unlimited tastes of each beer-inspired cook-off entry, a souvenir glass and two 16-ounce Alamo Beer pours. Discounts are available for seniors, veterans and students with valid ID.
