Julia Kleinheider

Julia Kleinheider, instructional assistant professor in the UH Department of Modern and Classical Languages received a grant for the Fulbright German Studies Seminar 2012:

Participants in this program gain a firsthand look into how Germany’s political, economic and cultural systems deal with contemporary issues.This year’s seminar topic was “Nation State and European Identity”. 

Kleinheider spent time in both Berlin and Brussels meeting with national and EU parliament members, journalists, academics, and teachers to discuss topics including the Euro crisis, Germany’s role in the European Union, the development of European identities, and immigration.  She has incorporated her seminar experience into classes and research at the University of Houston and is collaborating in an essay forum in the German Studies Review, among other projects.
