UH faculty-to-faculty Conversation on Education and Race Relations

On Tuesday, November 17th at Noon, the Faculty Senate Community and Government Relations Committee, in collaboration with the Faculty Café, will be facilitating a faculty-to-faculty virtual session discussing education and race relations issues. CLASS colleagues Dr. James L. Conyers, Director of the African American Studies Program, and Dr. Pamela Quiroz, Professor of Sociology, will be joined by Dr. Conra Gist, from the College of Education, to engage in this discussion. The session will take place via Microsoft Teams.

Pamela Anne Quiroz, Ph.D., is Executive Director of the Inter-University Program on Latino Research (IUPLR), Director of the Center for Mexican American Studies and Professor of Sociology at UH. She is Vice President of the Society for the Study of Social Programs and was a Fellow at the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy.

James L. Conyers, Ph.D., is Director of the African American Studies Program, Director of the Center for the Study of African American Culture, and Professor of African American Studies at UH. He has authored and edited over 30 books on Africana culture and race relations.

Conra D. Gist, Ph.D., an associate professor of teaching and teacher education at the UH College of Education, is the award-winning author of Preparing Teachers of Color to Teach: Culturally Responsive Teacher Education in Theory and Practice and editor of Portraits of Anti-Racist Alternative Routes to Teaching in the U.S.: Framing Teacher Development for Community, Justice, and Visionaries.
