The Art of Turning Your Science into a Business

Commercializing scientific research, or your latest breakthrough discovery, is no different than commercializing anything else. It may be more difficult in practice, however, because of the many steps that may be needed to turn your basic research into something practical, or you may have an created an invention without a clear market need.
This talk will give a brief introduction to the process and pitfalls of taking your discovery out of the lab and into a commercial startup.
About the Speaker
Jason Eriksen, Ph.D., PMP, SMNAI, is an associate professor in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Houston. Dr. Eriksen is an internationally recognized researcher and expert in the field of neurodegenerative disorders, with a particular interest in Alzheimer’s disease. He has a strong interest in the evaluation and commercialization of scientific technologies, and has founded several biotechnology companies that have raised over $20M in funding. He has authored/co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous book chapters. He is listed on more than 10 U.S. and international patents and is a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors.
