Sarah Flores wins Adell McMillan Memorial Scholarship at the 2022 ACUI Annual Conference - University of Houston

Sarah Flores was recognized with the Adell McMillan Memorial Scholarship at this year’s Association of College Unions International (ACUI) annual conference in Chicago, Illinois. Flores currently serves as the assistant director for the Student Centers while also attending school full-time. Her nominators note that she excels in both areas. In her role as assistant director, Flores created initiatives to improve customer service in the student centers and the overall work experience for the event services and audio-visual teams.

Kimberly Shaw-Reed, associate director for student centers, stated “Sarah has always shown excellence in achievement in the classroom and on a professional work level. I witness firsthand how hardworking and dedicated she is when it comes to her class assignments and assisting her colleagues. It has become apparent to me that Flores is dedicated to her academics and growing in the Higher Education profession. I am extremely proud to have her as a member of my team!”.

The Adell McMillan Memorial Scholarship was established to assist women in developing their leadership potential within the profession. It benefits the recipient through up to $1,000 in financial support to participate in activities that provide professional development, networking, and leadership opportunities.

I had the honor of working alongside Adell in ACUI and know she would be proud of Sarah’s current and future achievements. Honored to have Sarah at the Student Center and in the division,” stated Dr. Daniel Maxwell, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services.
