HHP Games 2024

The 2024 HHP Games were held on Thursday October 10th, 2024, in Room M201 (Melcher Life Sciences Building). This event was designed to give HHP students an opportunity to compete in educational events to obtain scholarships. There were a couple of events that were simply just for fun, and winners of those events received either a gift card or HHP Swag. There were degree level specific events, and a couple of events open to HHP students in all degree levels.

ALL DEGREE LEVELS - Students only

Lab-Lympics (HHP Swag)

Students will compete in a series of mini games: carnival style to test their skills in various formats. Lab-Lympics features 4 of the labs that we have in HHP: LIP, CHP/RISE, SFA/AA, and CNBR. Each lab will have a mini game you can complete. Games will consist of a pipet relay, scoring a soccer goal, a wheelchair obstacle course, and CNBR.

Wheelchair Relay (Gift Card)

Students will compete in a series of wheelchair agility skills. They will team up in groups of 3. If students do not have a group of 3 at sign-up, they can have a team assigned to them at Games upon arrival.

Marketing Plan for E-Sports ($500 scholarship)

Students will create an E-Sports team (can be for any game) and develop a 1-page marketing plan for the team. Students will have 3-5 minutes to present to the judges. Judges will decide which proposal is the best. The winner will receive a scholarship.

E-Sports Video Game Tournament (Gift Card Award)

Students will compete in a E-sports Tournament - Mario Kart on Nintendo Switch. This tournament will be set up as a bracket. Students will have 5 minutes to play the game. In this tournament, the person in last place will be eliminated from the tournament. The rest will move on to the next round. Rounds will consist of 4 people per game.   

 

ALL DEGREE LEVELS + FACULTY and STAFF

Food Brawl ($250 scholarship):

The Food Brawl theme for 2024 is food on a stick. This event will involve creating an innovative and healthier version of a traditional county fair staple: Food on a Stick. Students will need to create a recipe that is innovative, tasty and nutritious. Students will need to research and create a nutritional facts label for the food item. Students will also write a paper of 200 words or less describing how their item is nutritious. This event will involve creating a food item that is served on a skewer. 

Students will need to create a recipe that fits a set of criteria listed below. They will also bring their creation to the event for judges to try. After reviewing and tasting the new recipes, judges will decide which recipe is the best. The winner will receive a scholarship. There will also be a “Golden Kabob” award that will go to a student as well. The Golden Kabob award will be voted on by students, professors, and anyone else who shows up to Games. 

Criteria : 

  • Must taste delicious 
  • Must look presentable 
  • Must be nutritious

Note: Faculty and Staff will be judged separately. The $250 scholarship is for students only.

Ping Pong Tournament (Gift Card)

Students can form teams of up to 3 students. The games will be in a tournament style. Games will be single elimination style and last 5 minutes long. The winning team will move on to the next round. The final winners will be awarded gift cards and the Golden Paddle Award. 

 

UNDERGRADUATE

These games are open to undergraduate students with declared HHP majors.

Jeopardy Quiz Bowl ($500 Scholarship and a chance to attend the Texas ACSM meeting)

How well do you know exercise science? Compete to win a chance to attend the Texas ACSM meeting in Waco on February 20-21, 2025 and represent UH to compete against other teams from across the state. Sign up individually or as a team (2-3 students) for this Jeopardy-style competition. We will test your knowledge in exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, exercise testing and prescription, and other related subjects. Good luck!! 

 

Graduate Students

Elevator Pitch ($1,000 1st place, $750 2nd place, $500 for 2 runners-up)

Graduate students will present their research to judges in a 2-3-minute speech. Judges will decide which is the best and that student will receive a scholarship.
