Fan Wang

Fan Wang is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Houston specializing in development economics, with a particular focus on financial access and human capital development in village economies. He has studied the impact of formal credit market expansion on informal credit markets in Thai villages, the effects of village-based nutritional subsidies on child anthropometrics in Guatemala and the Philippines, and the consequences of consolidating village primary schools on educational attainment and language facility in rural China. To disentangle mechanisms of policy effects, Fan works with and develops tools for solving and estimating structural equilibrium models of financial, health, and labor market choices. Fan received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in economics from the University of Chicago.
